Creating New Futures Reading Group

Every other week, February 14th to April 27th

We will be holding (virtual) space for a bi-weekly reading group of Creating New Futures (the Final Phase 1 Document). This document addresses equity and ethics for presenting dance. Themes such as labor, contracts, accessibility and transparency are core entry points for rethinking ethical guidelines for the dance field.

We intend to read the document with a few different lenses:

1. Philly! The document was written with a national perspective in mind, and we really want to drill down into how the different proposals in the document could apply to Philly.

2. Action! We want to stay grounded in action throughout the conversations.

3. Live Arts! While the document specifically focuses on dance, we’re curious about how it can be read and applied more broadly to all live arts disciplines.

CNF comments on issues from multiple perspectives (dancer, choreographer, administrator, presenter, and more) and we would love to have many of those perspectives in the room.
